Google Chrome is now out of beta

December 16, 2008 · Comments

Google as you know used to release beta’s all the time for its new browser Chrome, the last “beta” update version was 0.4.154.29 but now Google has announced that in their 15th release (which is already released) that they will be taking off the beta label. So what we have here is a fully functional stable product. Currently there is no change-log available. And I did not see any difference using it either (maybe because I didn’t use it much yet :P)… Anyhow according to Google they have fixed some common bugs found in Chrome, improved the bookmark manger and privacy controls, also they say its 1.4 to 1.5 times faster than the beta.

You can now download it here

Google Knol Out to Public

July 24, 2008 · Comments

Google had just opened the Google Knol to the public. As I can see Google Knol is like Wikipedia but in a different form. Articles are written by individuals. I don’t know if there is an earning opportunity with the system.

Knols are authoritative articles about specific topics, written by people who know about those subjects. Today, we’re making Knol available to everyone.

The web contains vast amounts of information, but not everything worth knowing is on the web. An enormous amount of information resides in people’s heads: millions of people know useful things and billions more could benefit from that knowledge. Knol will encourage these people to contribute their knowledge online and make it accessible to everyone.

It is also like a blog. In order to know that the person writing is real, they have made a system in order to verify a person thru phone verification. I have tried to do the verification but the system is only available in  US.

In an SEO point of view, I think it can help. Because you can make articles and make link back to your site. Well I still have to test the system.

Google launches Google Trends. It’s the Alexa, Hitwise, Compete and Quantcast killer!

June 21, 2008 · Comments

Google announced today that they’re launching Google Trends. A tool that lets anyone get information on what the world visits most. For those who doesn’t know, this is exactly what Alexa, Compete, Hitwise and Quantcast are doing for years now.

google_trends

So, why it is a killer? Because Google has all the power to bring the traffic information accurately and has the capability to scale rapidly than any other company in the world.

How accurate can they be? Extremely accurate. They can easily get the traffic information from our daily Google searches, Gmail, Google Analytics, Google _ (fill in the blanks) and use that same information on Google Trends.

Now, the real question is, how can Alexa, Compete, Hitwise, and Quantcast compete with Google Trends? This time the answer is not going to be as easy. These companies should start to offer better and more innovative features than what Google Trends has to offer.

It is absolutely going to be interesting how this competition unfolds. One thing is for sure though, Google is definitely an 800-pound-gorilla to beat.
