The father of netbooks and considered to be the pioneer of cheap netbooks, ASUS, has just launched….(another) powerful nertbook that has a mid end hardware specs and considered to be the most powerful netbook on the market right now.

It is actually a full netbook but it is compressed like a netbook similar to ASUS N10JC that has the same design and built but varies on the size.

It certainly again raised the bar of the performance of the netbook performance., though it is more pricey than most other netbooks, you could easily procure other regular, more powerful notebook for the same price if you want to compromise its lightness and portability.

The Asus N10J A2 has almost everything going to it but does it justify the 37K ++ pesos value??

What would be the Specs??

Here it is:

Dimensions: 10.8 x 7.6 x 1.4 inches

Weight: 3.4 pounds

Processor: Intel Atom N270 clocked at 1.6 GHz, 512 KB cache

RAM: 2 GB DDR2 RAM

Hard Drive: 320 GB SATA HDD, 5400 RPM

Display: 10.2 inch LCD display, 1024 x 600 pixels

Graphics Card: Intel GMA 950 with 64 MB VRAM / Nvidia 9300 M GS with 256 MB VRAM

Wireless: Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g

Operating System: MS Windows Vista Business

Ports: 3 USB 2.0 ports, Ethernet, HDMI, Headphone, Microphone, VGA out, 8 in 1 card reader, Expresscard slot

Price: Php 37,000 *roughly*

For its DESIGN AND BUILD QUALITY:

Design almost identical with ASUS N10JC

It is radically different with other EEE PC range of netbooks

It incorporates more sophisticated and more on to corporate looks

It has a metallic feel and its body is colored of black and silver

It has a dimensionof 10.8×7.6×1.4 inches and weighs only 3.4 pounds

It is portable and suited for frequent travellers like me

Its build quality is good and feels very solid and durable

I guess, if it is in good hands, it would probably last for 3-4 years except for the obsolescence of its hardware

For its Display and Speakers:

It sports a 10.2 inch glossy LCD display with a bright resolution of 1024×600

The display quality is superb with optimum brightrness levels

it also offers a very good contrast

The glossy screen decreases the visibilty slightly when directed to sunlight

The display works well for watching videos and movies

Good thing that it is bundled with Altec Lansing speakers which is considered to be the pioneer makers of computer speakers

The volume is adequate enough to be heard in a average room completely

For its Keybaord and Touchpad:

The keyboard is nice and sporty looking

The spacing of the keyboards are perfect for travellers

It has a 1.3 megapixel webcam

It also has a spacious touch with nice sensitivity and responsiveness

How about its performance??

Well it is:

Powered by standard intel atom n270 processor clocked at 1.6 Ghz like most other notebooks

It has a muscular 2GB DDR2 RAM and 320 GB SATA 5400 RPM HDD

It has a discrete graphics of NVIDIA’S 9300 GS

It is suitable for moderate gaming only

It is bundled with Windows Vista Business

Whats on its Battery life and other features?:

It has a 6 cell battery which last for 4 hours and 25 minutes roughly.

It can be maximized to 5 hours and 30 minutes by switching it to integrated graphics

Its wi-fi reception is pretty good

It has 3 USB 2.0 ports, ethernet, HDMI, headphone, microphone, VGA out, 8 in 1 card reader and an Expresscard slot.

For first time readers, you may refer to the operational definition below if some words you encountered are not familiar to you… thanks for patronizing techblog :)

USB- universal serial bus

HDMI-high definition multimedia interface

VGA out- video graphics array out

ethernet- a protocol that controls the way data is transmitted over a local area network

RAM- random access memory

SATA- Serial Advanced Technology Attachment

LCD- liquid crystal display

On a very, very, very exclusive interview, I have confirmed the upcoming release of a new patch for MU Philippines that will “change the game”.

According to my source, the yet-untitled patch (MU 4.0) has several exciting new features which will “definitely pull new players into the game and rekindle interest for MU veterans”.

Hmmm… analysing what my source was telling me, I think it’s safe to guess the following:

“pull new players into the game” – In PR-speak this means, there will be NEW features that previously haven’t been in effect. This can mean new items, new maps, new characters, even?

“Rekindle interest for MU Veterans” – This might mean “new quests” or “new events”, OR a modification of a feature already in effect.

We all know MU-tizens have been CLAMORING (even DEMANDING!) the immediate release of this patch for QUITE SOME TIME NOW.

MU Philippines, by the way, is the 1st and longest-running 3D MMORPG title in the Philippines. Its classic gameplay promises timeless adventures for Pinoy gamers.

What do you think, guys?

If you want your small business to be successful, eventually you will need your own website. By keeping these five things in mind while shopping for a hosting provider, you can save a lot of headaches down the road.

1. Make sure the provider has a good reputation.
Seek unbiased reviews when looking for a provider. How long have they been in business? Are there plenty of customers singing their praise online? If a provider has a lot of downtime or horrible tech support, it won’t take long to find out.

2. Do they offer hosted exchange email services?
This will save you a lot of money and problems down the road. With exchange services your employees can access their messages anywhere- at home, on the job, even from their cell phone. You also save money, since you don’t need to spend resources on IT professionals and system administrators. The exchange service handles all this for you.

3. What level of customer support do they offer?
24/7 is the only acceptable answer here. They need to have knowledgeable support specialists and offer help via several outlets including chat, toll free numbers, and email. Make sure you are aware of what level of support is available for your hosting plan and if there are any additional costs it may entail.

4. How do they handle data back-ups?
The last thing you want is to lose your site and all the information you worked so hard to get on there in the first place. Make sure the provider does regular back-ups and gives you the ability to do them yourself manually.

5. Will the provider give your business room to grow?
Check out all their plans to make sure you can grow with the provider. Can you host unlimited sites? Do they offer a comprehensive list of marketing tools? If you do one day need to switch providers, make sure they have transfer protocols in place to make it as painless as possible.

Taking your small business online is the best thing you can do to grow your company. By doing your research you can find a provider that offers maximum value for minimum dollars.

Google as you know used to release beta’s all the time for its new browser Chrome, the last “beta” update version was 0.4.154.29 but now Google has announced that in their 15th release (which is already released) that they will be taking off the beta label. So what we have here is a fully functional stable product. Currently there is no change-log available. And I did not see any difference using it either (maybe because I didn’t use it much yet :P)… Anyhow according to Google they have fixed some common bugs found in Chrome, improved the bookmark manger and privacy controls, also they say its 1.4 to 1.5 times faster than the beta.

You can now download it here

Automattic, the company behind WordPress, bought the Irish startup Polldaddy (which is my poll service of choice and used in this blog). This is to further push and make WordPress better more than other things, similar to the recent acquisition of IntenseDebate. However, the acquisition, just like IntenseDebate and Gravatar, will not lead to exclusivity of the service to WordPress users.

Polldaddy’s stiff competitor in the Poll service space is Vizu, which provide features that daddy’s poll doesn’t provide. However, the same can be said for Vizu, and thus I created a test post displaying the two top poll services side-by-side: POLL: Where are you from?

Congratulations and good luck to Polldaddy and Automattic!

MSN Groups, one of the last remnants of the MSN Brand, is going to shutdown its services on February 21, 2009. All groups in the service will be given a chance to move their group, discussions, files, and histories over to Multiply – the 8th largest Social Network today.

The optional migration will hopefully start next week, as MSN and Multiply do the final testing on the scripts. After this, Microsoft will be able to concentrate and pool all their resources to the upcoming Windows Live Groups.

Below is the letter posted by Charlotte Jones, Group Product Manager of Microsoft, in the CommunityFeedback of MSN Groups.

You may have heard rumors that MSN Groups will in closing, I’d like to respond to those here so that our most active users have the information you need to manage your groups effectively. It is true that we are planning to close the MSN Groups service on February 21, 2009 and will offer you the opportunity to move your group to our new partner service, Multiply. We understand the importance of keeping your group together, so we partnered with Multiply to create a migration process that moves your group to their service to preserve your online community and its history.

The migration method that Multiply has built for you is still in the beta stage, we plan to open it next week. Once the service is ready we’ll be sending all of our users an email and will post notices within the MSN Groups site with more information, including instructions for beginning the migration process. In the meantime I encourage you to visit http://Multiply.com to get to know the service and see some of the thousands of groups they host already.

The natural question to ask in this situation is why we are closing MSN Groups. It is our goal to provide our customers with the most current and user friendly technology available today. We made the difficult decision to close the MSN Groups service as part of an overall investment in updating and re-aligning our online services with Windows Live. In the long term we believe that closing the service is the best way to continue to offer innovative, best of breed services that help you stay in touch with the people you care about. It’s very important to us that you keep the data you created using MSN Groups and that is why we have partnered with Multiply, so you can keep your group going into the future despite the closure of MSN Groups.

Between today and February 21, 2009 the MSN Groups service will remain the same as it is now. We will remove the option to add more storage to your group but other features will remain until the service is shut down and you can use it the same way you do today until the date of closure. Watch the site and your email inbox over the next week as we will post updated information there, including a more detailed outline of your options and next steps.

Regards,
Charlotte Jones, Group Product Manager, Microsoft
