Philippine National Police launches wanted database website
June 21, 2008 · Comments
Responding to the order of Philippine National Police director Avelino Razon to compile a database of wanted persons on a nationwide scale, the PNP Computer Service has launched a new website of Philippines’ most wanted criminals.
The new website includes pictures, vital information of the wanted persons and the monetary reward for any information that will lead to their apprehension. Anyone who has an access to a computer and the internet can browse through the website located at http://www.pnp.gov.ph (direct link: https://registry.pnp.gov.ph/mwp)
“This 24-hour online site will be very effective in immediately alerting all police offices throughout the country as well as the public of the possibility that a person in their community is a most wanted person,” Razon said. (UPDATE: The website is inaccessible as of June 21st 2008 6:09PM)
Chief Superintendent Teofilo Melliza Jr, Computer Service director, said the online registry is part of the PNP Modernization Program that includes innovation in preventing and resolving crimes through information technology.

June 20, 2008 · Comments
There’s a Yahoo! Press Release announcing the availability of two new email domains. According to Yahoo!, this is now the chance to let other users get the email they want.
The two new domains are YMail.com and the RocketMail.com.
According to Yahoo!
“Yahoo! Announces Global Availability of Two New E-mail Domains. World’s Largest E-mail Service Gives People the Chance to Get the E-mail Address They’ve Always Wanted With the Launch of ymail.com and rocketmail.com…”
I know a lot will just say, “Why will I bother getting another email account? I’m perfectly fine with my current one and Gmail is a lot better.”
You’re absolutely right! There’s no reason to switch email providers. However there are reasons why you would consider getting your nickname on these web services.
Two things:
- It’s your online identity, you should “really” get it
- It’s your brand, you should “secure” it or else your competitor will
It is seriously a good idea to get your nickname on all major email providers such as Yahoo!, Gmail, Hotmail and Live before someone else does. And this mindset should also be not limited to emails but major online services (whenever you can).
A real world example would be the experience of Loic Le Meur (founder of Seesmic) and Robert Scoble (Tech Geek Blogger) on the new Plurk service (a microblogging service, competitor of twitter).
Oh. You don’t know what I’m talking about do you? Here’s a conversation at FriendFeed about someone who squatted at Loic’s nickname at Plurk. And if Loic wasn’t well connected, he wouldn’t have gotten back his identity at Plurk. He’s lucky. Would you be?
Here are the screenshots of the conversation at FriendFeed.
Loic wrote on his blog that it’s a good idea of having a premium service just to get your nickname/username for new services. I honestly don’t know how you would offer it, be profitable and still catch on with the fast web though.
Going back to the new Yahoo! email domains. Having said all that, you should really think about it. Do you want other people sending spam, p0rn, or plainly misusing your nickname?
If your answer is yes, then nobody can probably help you. However, if you do care – you can start by jumping on the above links to signup for a new account at ymail and rocketmail now.
It’s always better to be safe than sorry.
