Earth Aims for 100% Solar Power Energy

September 13, 2008 · Comments

Imagine being transported 20 years into the future. You might get surprised that everything looks a lot similar to the present. You get to the first person that you see, and you make friends with that guy. You get to have good times. Then as you continue your futuristic adventure, you’d notice that every home, car and building are powered up using solar energy. Gasoline and electrical energy sources had become completely obsolete – no one uses these energy sources anymore.

Okay, I’m not sure that the world will use 100% solar energy within 20 years. But the good news is that scientists had finally turned their focus to make solar energy a great alternative to fossil fuel and electrical energy.

Solar energy had been around for decades but the world seemed not to use it to its full potential. The world suffers from energy problems. I think scientists should start working fast at the possibility of using space solar power. National Space Society lists down all the advantages of implementing solar power with only one drawback: the technology is too expensive. Perhaps this is why solar energy had not improved so much.

Hawaii Solar power

The first successful power transmission using solar power was done in the Mojave Desert in the 1970’s. This one is an improvement of that previous experiment. This time the scientists had picked Hawaii for this experiment. Solar panels are installed at the top of one of Maui’s mountains and the energy is beamed down 92 miles to Hawaii. This generated power this time is hundred times greater, estimated to be at 20 Watts which is enough to get a small flourescent light.

The full 120 Gigawatts power that the sun and the space beam up on the earth is more than enough to power up the whole earth. Present earthlings are using a fraction of this power coming from electrical energy and fossil fuels. Most of that space solar power is simply put to waste.

The scientists had begun climbing up the steps. I hope these brilliant scientists can also make a huge leap for mankind.

Sen. Bong Revilla Indirectly Promotes Piracy and Splogs

September 3, 2008 · Comments

I just finished reviewing my sensor logs GameOPS‘ recent comments when I stumbled upon a comment from Mobisop. His (her?) comment was posted on an article announcing the release of HighStreet 5 in the Philippines. Mobisop said that the game would be a great game. Curious, I clicked his name which brought me to his website.

The website turns out to be a subdomain of Resiklo.com, the official website of the movie Resiklo. To those who don’t know, Resiklo was the 2007 Metro Manila Film Fest’s Best Picture and a movie by Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. MOBISOP claims to be a movie and software review blog.

Click image for more detailed info

Well this blog doesn’t seem to be a “review blog” at all. All it offers are links to warez and cracked applications and ways for you to watch movies online. But clicking deeper into this, you won’t see any cracked applications or ways to watch movies online.

The blog tricks you to click and click links until your reach a site where it will only describe that certain movie or warez you’re looking for. The sites you’ll encounter will also warn you that watching a movie online or using cracks/warez is illegal. In other words, the sites you’ve been through are all SPLOGS. PERIOD.

Okay guys, what’s wrong with this?

I don’t know what you guys think but being the star and producer of the movie Resiklo, Sen. Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. is indirectly promoting illegal movies, warez and cracked applications online just by the use of his domain. Though he’s actually not the one doing it, it’s still his responsibility to check his websites now and then. Right?

We’re just fresh from the news that Anino Games Inc. got caught by the NBI for using illegal and pirated copies of Autodesk softwares. Now another big wig is joining them and unfortunately, he’s an official of the Republic of the Philippines.

What would Chairman Edu Manzano think off if he learns about this? Another word war? :~)

Globe iPhone 3G Countdown Launch Party!

August 22, 2008 · Comments

Free Shirt from Globe iPhone 3G Countdown Launch Party

Are you wondering what happened last night at the Globe iPhone 3G Countdown Launch Party?

Try to the watch the archived (live) streaming of the event at Qik and Bambuser! The Qik stream was captured through a Nokia E71 while the Bambuser stream was created through my Sony Ericsson P990i.

Capturing photos was somewhat hard for my SE P990i’s had a weird reaction adjusting to the lights and all so I just thought that it would be much better to stream the event live. The connection I had used was one of the 5 free WiFi access points that Globe provided during the event at Ayala Tower One.

So how about you? Are you planning to get an iPhone too or do you have one already? :)

Yahoo! Buzz wants everyone to get buzzed

August 20, 2008 · Comments

Great news for the Pinoy blogosphere! Yahoo!’s very own social news site, Yahoo! Buzz, finally opens its arms to everyone. Launched last February of this year, Buzz was initially limited to a number of invited publishers who can post articles in Buzz and benefit from a tremendous surge in traffic when it gets pushed to Yahoo!’s home page.

Not anymore, starting today, Yahoo! Buzz will let anyone with an interesting story to share be able to submit a link and have the opportunity to get buzzed by the Yahoo! community. It was last July when Buzz dropped a hint to everyone through email that they will be opening their doors soon. Apparently it’s sooner than later as now, all of us can benefit from the service.

To anyone who appreciates the importance of social media, this is perfect timing. We all know how hard it is to penetrate established social news sites like Digg and Reddit. With Yahoo! Buzz opening up, it helps level the playing field and gives us more options to spread our stories and discover other compelling content that interests us. Click now and submit your story. :)

Solid Broadband Corporation Launches my|screen LCD TV

August 7, 2008 · Comments

One year after I posted a scoop on GameOPS about Solid Broadband Corporation’s my|phone, here’s another juicy news. The owners of Destiny Cable Internet (mydestiny) is introducing another product on their “my” series called my|screen.

You guess it right, it’s a cheap and re-branded monitor/LCD TV.

Solid Broadband Corporation will release 4 screen sizes: 16 inches(MYS-16), 22 inches(MYS-22), 32 inches(MYS-32), and 42 inches(MYS-42).

Key features include a stereo system NIC AM/A2, Port S-Video, HDMI optional, Full HD 1080P, USB Connectivity, PC input, PIP/POP function, and Multi-Language menu. Prices on these LCD TVs are not yet available but you may call your local Global Destiny Cable TV agents and inquire about the P888/month package for 2 years that includes a free my|screen TV.

From what I’ve snooped, Solid Broadband Corporation might or will launch more brands on their “my” series: my|sound and my|book. my|sound might be a line of speakers or audio system and my|book is rumored to be a line of cheap and portable laptops. Exciting isn’t it?

Hey Destiny, how about getting those Star Channels back on CATV and fixing our mydestiny cable internet speed problems first? I’ve been experiencing very slow browsing and download speeds every afternoon and evening for the past 3 weeks already.
