PHP Roadshow on the Go!
February 1, 2009 · Comments
PHP Roadshow is an outreach to college students with the goal of reaching the same level of programming competency of our counterparts (Filipino and non-Filipino) outside of the country (including standardizations and value of work).
This is an initiated project of PHP User Group Philippines, Inc. (PHPUGPH), in support of the organization’s mission of advocating and disseminating the use of PHP (Hypertext Pre-processor) as well as Open Source technologies in schools and companies in the Philippines.
Competitive volunteer speakers from PHPUGPH discuss FOSS topics including PHP and MySQL, Content Management Systems (CMS) like Joomla! and Drupal, database designing, programming best practices and other related topics for the PHP Roadshow.
Below are some of the schools already visited by the PHP Roadshow:
- AMA Computer College – Makati – 21 June 2008
- University of Santo Tomas (UST) - 30 August 2008
- Manila Central University (MCU) – 6 September 2008

International Conference on Open Source Software for Health (INCOSSH2008)’s Call for Participation by IOSN-InWEnt-USM
October 8, 2008 · Comments
The preceding decade has witnessed numerous new developments with regard to medical knowledge, medical technology and healthcare. To avoid being left behind, it is imperative that we initiate steps so as to be more innovative in exploiting these new advances for the benefit of patients, particularly in Malaysia and throughout the Asia Pacific region in general. In realizing this aim, the Malaysian government has taken the smart initiative in establishing the Advanced Medical and Dental Institute (AMDI) which will function to manifest this aspiration particularly for the benefit of the public in the northern part of Peninsular Malaysia as well as throughout Malaysia in general.
The main mission of AMDI is to function as the prime catalyst in producing scientists and dental and medical specialists who are competent, holistic and contemporary in their practice and profession as well as being capable of generating novel discoveries in the fields of medicine and dentistry. To realize this aim, AMDI will adopt a comprehensive approach embracing both clinical and pure sciences in training, service and research. It is envisioned that this “cross fertilization” philosophical approach will foster a fertile and inventive environment that will increase the probability of new discoveries in both dentistry and medicine. Hence, the AMDI infrastructure will be designed to facilitate this cross-fertilization approach.

September 5, 2008 · Comments
What’s up, mga nerds?
Hehehe…
Got your attention there, didn’t I?
ANYWAY, let me just run something quick to you guys, our avid readers here in TechBlog.ph. See, Dekaron SEA, (aka Dekaron Philippines, Dekaron Singapore, Dekaron Malaysia) is NOW on Open Beta.
Those of you who missed out on all the fun when Dekaron SEA was on Closed Beta, here’s your chance to experience and explore what has been hailed all over the world as “the most violent gaming experience you can have online.”
It’s so awesome, it’s the ONLY game that has to have a ratings advisory in its log-in page. A “For 17 Years Old and Above Only. Minors Cannot Play This Game.” warning appears briefly after you log-in. Hmmm…

"Wait, did you just say 'Without Herpes, we would all be dead by now'?" (Click Image For Larger View)
Ok, so, Dekaron SEA is FREE for the Philippines, Singapore, and Malaysia. You need a mobiusgames account to play. However, if you’re in doubt as to whether or not you can play Dekaron SEA if you’re not playing within the mobiusgames territory of the Philippines, Singapore, and Malaysia, refer to this short FAQ.
Also, mobiusgames has a lot of events and promos to keep everyone busy. There’s a 2x Drop and EXP rates in effect until the OBT ends in September 23.
Perhaps, Dekaron SEA owes some of its buzz to, eherm, eherm, gaming blogs like Hackenslash, Techblog.ph, MikeGotGame.com, Jam Online, MMOTaku, and GameShogun. Dekaron SEA is definitely this gaming season’s dark horse. With not much hype, it has steadily steamrolled into one of the most buzzed about game in recent years.
Read MikeGotGame.com’s series of “hands-on previews”, beginning with his article on Dekaron’s eyecandy for an interesting read.
Hmmm… how about you, guys? Have you tried Dekaron SEA? Got an opinion?

August 22, 2008 · Comments
Are you wondering what happened last night at the Globe iPhone 3G Countdown Launch Party?
Try to the watch the archived (live) streaming of the event at Qik and Bambuser! The Qik stream was captured through a Nokia E71 while the Bambuser stream was created through my Sony Ericsson P990i.
Capturing photos was somewhat hard for my SE P990i’s had a weird reaction adjusting to the lights and all so I just thought that it would be much better to stream the event live. The connection I had used was one of the 5 free WiFi access points that Globe provided during the event at Ayala Tower One.
So how about you? Are you planning to get an iPhone too or do you have one already? :)

August 21, 2008 · Comments
The Yahoo! Philippines Developers’ Night was held last Wednesday, August 14, in TGI Friday’s in Glorietta 3, where Yahoo! gave an overview of the Yahoo! Developer Network and discussed the future of the web development scene in the Philippines with the developers who attended the networking session. There was food, drinks, swag, and a healthy flow of techie conversations.
As the one giving the YDN overview, I was worried about possible low turnout due to the heavy rains prior and during the early part of the event–but in the end, the place was packed! I met many local developers, shared Yahoo! details and trivia, and learned from them as well. Jojo Anonuevo, our General Manager for Yahoo! Philippines, also gave an overview and is inviting Pinoy developers to apply for a chance to go to the Yahoo! HQ in Sunnyvale, California and represent the community. Give it a shot–applications are due 5:00PM on August 22.
Congratulations to Christine Amarra who won the lucky draw and took home the purple (but of course!) iPod, and thank you to all those who came to our event, and extra thanks go to those who blogged about it–Joe “phpcurious” Siao, Bob Reyes, PHP.ph and the people over at PinoyWebStartup.
Sa uulitin! :)
