Yahoo! Homepage Soon To Wear Purple
September 20, 2008 · Comments
Yahoo! recently launched a “Start Wearing Purple” campaign which is basically a celebration of all things purple, about recognizing that unique, charmingly eccentric side of all of us. It invites everyone to wear purple and paint the town purple. Of course, all this points to what it means to be a Yahoo! as purple has long been the color of the company (why you may ask, click here to find out). Apparently, this campaign seems to have extended to the Yahoo! homepage as a new homepage is soon to be launched – and it’s very purple. Check out this screenshot now:
Tapan Bhat, Yahoo! SVP for Front Doors, Communities and Network Services explains in the Yodel Anecdotal that the new homepage will “help you get more out of the Internet, make more of your precious time, and make sense of all the things going on in your world.” How exactly wil this happen? Here are his two points:
1. One easy check-in point. With this new homepage, you can now add your fave services (both Yahoo! and non-Yahoo!) making it almost like a My Yahoo! central place for you to check your emails, social networks, news, blogs and other services and applications that interests you online.
2. Helping you stay informed. The new design will make it easier to push fresh, new and relevant content to users (most likely from Buzz) aside from the traditional information you get with the current version. Through an open strategy, developers and publishers will be able to submit their own applications that can be featured in the Yahoo! homepage. This will easily allow users to receive information from their connections across Yahoo! and the Web in general.
It’s still in beta and just a handful of users will be able to view it but it’s definitely a welcome change and something to look forward to.
