The Survey for People Who Make Websites
July 30, 2008 · Comments
Last year, A List Apart released a web design survey, focusing on finding out common job titles, salaries, and work situations in the web industry. Yesterday, they launched another survey, targeting people who make websites explicitly. They include in this category “all designers, developers, information architects, project managers, writers, editors, [and] marketers,” and I suppose anyone else who is in on creating websites, be it the backend, frontend, or content portion of it.
This year’s survey aims to correct mistakes in the one made last year:
Filed under Internet · Tags: survey, web, web design, web development, websitesThis year’s survey corrects many of last year’s mistakes, with more detailed and numerous questions for freelance contractors and owners of (or partners in) small web businesses. There are also better international categories, and many other improvements recommended by those who took the survey last year.

Dekaron Cometh

According to this press release on gameshogun.ws, registration for the closed beta testing of Dekaron is now open!
If you had been living under a rock (or online in a dedicated narutard forums board), then you probably don’t have an idea what the Dekaron buzz is all about. Well, fat chance, chumps, coz I aint telling you what Dekaron is all about. Suffice to say, that according to the whole wide world, it’s “the most violent gaming experience you can have online.” For more information, go to http://dekaron.mobiusgames.net.
Just for the yummy, bloody goodness, here are several gameplay captures prepared by yours truly:
(all videos are available in high quality.)
Above is a video of a “Vicious Summoner”. Anyone with the first name “Vicious” has got to be related to Chuck Norris. Or Malu Fernandez. The Vicious Summoner class is, well, vicious. As a Vicious Summoner, you get to summon several spirits and beasts which can aide you in battle. Shown in video are Regulus, that big electrocutin’ bitch dawg, and a Tarantula. If you have bladder control issues and you need to go to the toilet a lot, or if stuffing food down your throat’s kinda more like your thing, then the Vicious Summoner is the right class for you. Summon a beast while you excuse yourself to make a grilled sandwich is fine (but don’t be gone for too long coz there just might be a Segnale lurking around).

July 26, 2008 · Comments
A couple of months ago, PSP users were looking forward to Sony Playstation Portable’s 4.00 firmware, hoping that it would being something new to the already popular handheld gaming console. There were rumors of additional multimedia support like codecs for video playback beyond MPEG4 and such. But 4.00 came in with nothing as exciting as the rumors: enhanced Google search capabilities and the ability to speed up or slow down video playback by pressing the up or down buttons while playing video.
Now, just a around a month past the 4.01 release, Sony has once again released a new firmware version for the PSP: firmware 4.05. And does the changelog make users quiver in their boots in excitement? Hardly.
The sole new feature that appears to come with the 4.05 update is additional visualizations. Hardly worth anything for people who use the PSPs solely for gaming but probably something worth considering by people who use their handhelds as their primary music device.
But then the next question comes: will a custom firmware version of Sony’s 4.05 come out soon? PSP Gen appears to have claimed that they have already decrypted the 4.05 OFW (Official Firmware) and will be releasing 4.05 CFW soon. Dark~AleX and Team M33 however are unlikely to release 4.05 M33 due to the fact that there’s hardly any change from the 4.01 release aside the additional visualizations.
Probably the only reason to upgrade from 3.90 to 4.01 or even 4.05 is the fact that newer PSP games will require the latest firmware versions. Otherwise, it’s best to just wait till something exciting actually comes out of Sony’s firmware factory.

July 24, 2008 · Comments
Google had just opened the Google Knol to the public. As I can see Google Knol is like Wikipedia but in a different form. Articles are written by individuals. I don’t know if there is an earning opportunity with the system.
Knols are authoritative articles about specific topics, written by people who know about those subjects. Today, we’re making Knol available to everyone.
The web contains vast amounts of information, but not everything worth knowing is on the web. An enormous amount of information resides in people’s heads: millions of people know useful things and billions more could benefit from that knowledge. Knol will encourage these people to contribute their knowledge online and make it accessible to everyone.
It is also like a blog. In order to know that the person writing is real, they have made a system in order to verify a person thru phone verification. I have tried to do the verification but the system is only available in US.
In an SEO point of view, I think it can help. Because you can make articles and make link back to your site. Well I still have to test the system.

July 20, 2008 · Comments
That’s right, you read it right. Internet web servers from the world’s most leading and most successful internet search engine giant could also go down. As I am posting this entry, Google Adsense website is currently down.
A long time ago, written from internet’s history, AOL and Yahoo websites went unavailable for a certain period of time. There were rumors that their websites were intruded by web hackers, which was restored immediately as their sites were being actively monitored on 24/7 time basis with redundant backup availability.
Let me tell you right now that Google Adsense websites are always being implemented with rock-solid high industry standard and well distributed web server setup and configurations. They do multipoint and geographical site clustering and server load balancing technology, mostly on their publicly available internet web servers. This approach makes sure that all our billion requests to browse and query their sites comes blazingly fast while not making their webservers loaded up and crumpled down due to multimillion user requests. Amazing it is.
So, why the issue of Google Adsense web site going down?
Uptime and monitoring are the key factors. If a person deals with his thousand-earning website monetized by Google Adsense technology, and not being able to login and monitor your earnings at that particular point of downtime by Google Adsense webserver could be personally alarming. Maybe to some, and could be to others. This is no different case of monitoring your stock trades online that could earns thousand bucks a few seconds time and could lose the same amount after a few minute of stock trading online. It is the personal inconvenience, that is where it goes down.
Shown below is temporary site unavailability of Google Adsense URL.
For the record, I am keeping this as my internet souvenir of a very rare instance of Google Adsense web server being down temporarily, ‘coz it doesn’t happen all the time.
So, take a real look at it, it is like a snow fall from a tropical country like Philippines.
All done.
